Tuesday

Hi there.  How's it going at your place? Did you have a good weekend?  We had a pretty productive one here. I got a lot of sewing done, and Bret did a ton of yard work.  Best of all I had coffee with my two Debbies and that was the highlight!

Sad doings here too.  Friday morning out on the patio was lovely, the hummingbirds were feeding their babies.  I came back out after my shower to find that a huge blue jay had ripped apart the nest and had stolen the babies.  Later I saw him eating them.  Man nature is harsh and heartbreaking.  I have only seen the hummingbird adults a couple of times since then.  Hopefully they'll come back.

I know it's still snowing places, but it's heating up here way too fast. It was in the low 90's over the weekend.  Yikes, it seems soon.

Hope you're having a good week. xo

Oh! That is a vivid nature episode... poor mama and papa hummers.

As for nature and weather... I am not ready for 90's, or eighties! That would be too much, too soon for me. I'll be sure to enjoy whatever remains of our mild spring.

We had that same nature lesson a few years ago right on our deck. So now my husband destroys the beginning sof all nests before the eggs are laid. His version of putting his head in the sand, if it doesn't happen on his deck he can think the babies are safe in the bushes and shrubs.

That is just too sad! I live in the Sierra Mountains and we have had the same thing happen - those blue jays are just awful and they will remember where the nest is the following year and do the same thing. We ended up buying some really great (bluejay proof!) nests online from Best Nest and this is the second year we've had them up. We haven't had any more baby birds stolen or eggs either. You may want to give Best Nest a try - they have tons of nests to choose from.

So sad to see, but you are right - nature is harsh bit it's also a survival of the fittest sort of thing.

That is just too sad!!!! Nature can be beautiful and harsh at the same time!

It snowed again last night. My tulips that had started to come up were frozen a few weeks ago. No flowers anywhere! I miss my garden!!!!

Oh no - not the babies! I had no idea that blue jays would do that.... :o( sniff.... so sorry you had to see that happen.... the pictures you shared were fun to see. We've had 'gang' birds here, too.... and after that, no more nests on our front porch either... been very sad... we had babies here every spring for over 15 years and the last few years, nothing after some birds from around here trashed the nest.

Oh PKM -- that's awful! Stupid Bluejay. I'm really worried we'll see something similar with Mother Goose and the hawks. The hawks know she is there, I just hope she and Father Goose can fend them off if the babies successfully hatch.

Our baby swallows suffered the same fate last year..no swallows came back to our house this year...bummer...but we have lots of baby bluejays around now...nature works in it's own way...though I really miss the baby swallows...Patty E

Oh that is so sad :( Those poor babies. We don't have snow here, but cool spring like temperatures. I'm not complaining =D
